Best defense tech design agency picks for 2026: Visual Logic, Rise8, Truss, Cosmos Studio, Eleken and more, compared by real defense work, fit and pricing.
Key takeaways:
- Pick a defense tech design agency by the work you need now: startup brand and website, product UX, operator UX for programs, or mission software delivery.
- Visual Logic, Rise8 and Truss show the deepest public defense and government work, but they serve programs more than early startups.
- Cosmos Studio, Eleken and Halo Lab fit startups; only Eleken and Cosmos Studio publish prices.
- Ask every agency which defense product it designed and what its exact role was.
The best defense tech design agency for you depends on what you need designed. For operator interfaces inside defense programs, Visual Logic has the longest public record. For mission software built and shipped with the US Department of Defense, look at Rise8 and Truss. For a startup that needs a brand, a website and a product interface from one team, the shortlist is Cosmos Studio, Eleken and Halo Lab.
I run Cosmos Studio, which is on this list, so here is how I kept it fair: every claim about another agency comes from that agency's own website, checked on October 29, 2026. Where another agency is the better choice, I say so.
How we picked the agencies
Most "best agency" lists are directories with hourly rates and no proof. We used one hard filter: the agency's own site must show defense, dual-use or government work you can read about. A logo wall did not count, and neither did a blog post about the defense market.
We started with 15 well-known product design agencies, plus specialists that appear in defense UX searches. Most well-known SaaS design studios show no defense case on their sites, so they are not here. That does not mean they cannot do the work. It means you would be paying them to learn the domain.
For each agency we recorded where it is based, what defense or government work it shows, what it is best for and whether it publishes prices. We did not rank by size or awards, because a large integrator and a 10-person studio solve different problems.
Defense tech design agencies compared
The table is grouped by type of work, from defense programs to startup branding. Cosmos Studio sits in the middle because that is where our work is.
| Agency | Based in | Defense or government work shown on its own site | Best for | Published pricing |

"Not stated" means we could not find the fact on the agency's site. Ask them directly.
The agencies, one by one
Visual Logic: operator UX for defense programs
Visual Logic is a UX firm in Cedar Falls, Iowa, working since 1988. Its site lists Raytheon, SRC, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy among its clients. One case describes the redesign of a legacy warfighter interface for a missile defense system, covering battle management, system configuration and awareness of the wider system. Another is a one-year project with Exergi Predictive on an AI energy planning tool for the Army Application Lab's Robotic Combat Vehicle program, from user research and personas to prototypes.
Choose it if you are a prime, a program office or a later-stage company that needs research-heavy operator UX. Its services are concept design, UX design and design maturity work for organizations. The services on its site do not include branding or marketing websites.
Rise8: mission software delivery with design built in
Rise8 is a software delivery company in Tampa, Florida. Co-founder Bryon Kroger is a former U.S. Air Force targeteer who also co-founded Kessel Run. User-centered design is one of its three core practices, and its teams combine product, design and engineering. The site names the U.S. Space Force (the FORGE program for missile warning and tracking software), the U.S. Air Force through AFWERX and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Rise8 holds an AFWERX Software Delivery Organization SBIR Phase III IDIQ, which, according to its site, lets any DoD or federal agency engage it directly without a competition. Choose it when you already have a government customer and need working software in production. It is a delivery partner, so it is not the place for a pitch deck or a launch website.
Truss: government digital services on federal contracts
Truss is a San Francisco digital services firm that designs and builds services for government agencies. Its defense case is MilMove, a system for moving service members' belongings, built for U.S. Transportation Command with the U.S. Digital Service and the Defense Digital Service. It also built parts of the VA Caseflow appeals suite.
Its site lists SBA 8(a), GSA IT-70 and SEWP VI contract vehicles. Choose it if your buyer is a federal agency that needs research, design and engineering under one contract. Truss is less of a fit for a startup's own brand or investor materials.
Cosmos Studio: brand, website and product UI for defense startups
Cosmos Studio is a team of 10 mid-level and senior designers and front-end engineers, working since 2018. Our defense work includes the website for SerenX, a maker of autonomous interceptors and C2 software, launched five months after kickoff, and the brand, website and geospatial analysis platform for Bravo1Alpha, a GEOINT and IMINT company. We design with MIL-STD-2525 and NATO APP-6 symbology and build front-ends in React.
Choose us if you want the brand, the website, the pitch visuals and the product interface to come from one team, so investors, buyers and operators see the same product. Where others are stronger: we hold no security clearances, we are not on GSA or SBA contract vehicles, and our team is small. For a classified program or a large software build, Rise8 or Truss fits better.
Eleken: product UX for dual-use SaaS on subscription
Eleken is a UI/UX agency for SaaS that works on a monthly subscription. Its GPI case is an MVP for "the US defense enterprise and intelligence community": one designer spent two months on the site map, user flows, five data visualization screens, a logo and a design system. The client asked for a design "dumb enough for a general to understand." Eleken also redesigned the platform of INVOLI, which sells low-altitude air traffic receivers and drone tracking software.
Pricing is public: $6,599 a month for a full-time designer and $4,599 for part-time support, with a free three-day trial. Choose it for steady product design capacity on a dual-use SaaS product. Defense is one case among more than 70 on its site.
Fuselab Creative: government dashboards and data UX
Fuselab Creative is a design and engineering agency in McLean, Virginia, founded in 2017. It designs AI interfaces, enterprise dashboards and data and map visualization. It holds a GSA MAS contract and names NASA and the National Institutes of Health as federal clients.
Its site names no defense clients, so treat it as a government data UX specialist. It fits when your product is a dashboard sold to civilian agencies or when you need design and development under GSA.
Halo Lab: brand and UI for commercial drone startups
Halo Lab is a product design and web agency with offices in Warsaw and Boston. Its closest project to this list is Droney, a drone-delivery logistics platform: brand, design system and app UI in about 3.5 months in 2024. Its site shows no defense clients.
It is worth a call if your drone or robotics startup sells to commercial customers first and you want a strong visual brand. For operator software or military buyers, you will need to bring the domain knowledge yourself.
Project A design team: for its own portfolio
Project A is a venture capital firm with offices in Berlin, London and Munich, and it has an in-house design team for web, UX/UI and brand work. That team created a minimum viable brand and the website for ARX Robotics, a Project A portfolio company that makes unmanned ground vehicles for military and civilian use. ARX later raised a seed round led by the NATO Innovation Fund.
Its design site does not say whether it takes outside clients. If you are raising from Project A, ask about it. If not, use the ARX case as a reference for what an early defense brand can look like.
Which type of agency fits your stage?
Most defense startups go through three design needs: a brand and website to raise and recruit, a first product interface for pilots, and production software for a government customer. Most agencies on this list focus on one of them, so pick by the stage you are in now.
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-seed or seed, raising soon, no website or brand yet | Cosmos Studio, Halo Lab, or Project A if you are in its portfolio | You need a brand, a site and investor visuals that tell one story |
| First operator product, MVP stage, small budget | Eleken or Cosmos Studio | Product design capacity sized for an MVP budget |
| Prime contractor or program office, operator interface redesign | Visual Logic | The longest public record of warfighter interface work on this list |
| You have a DoD customer and need software in production | Rise8 or Truss | Engineering, product and design teams that already work on federal contracts |
| Government dashboards and data visualization | Fuselab Creative | GSA MAS contract and public-sector data work |

If you split the work between agencies, ask both to use one design system and one product vocabulary. Otherwise the product an investor sees on the website and the one an operator sees in a pilot start to look like two different companies.
Five questions to ask any agency on this list
Our guide to choosing a UI/UX agency for defense tech covers export controls, NDAs and red flags in detail. On the first call, these five questions separate real experience from a good portfolio:
- Which defense or dual-use product did you design, and what exactly was your part?
- What will you need from us, and what can you design with sample data?
- Who will do the work, and can we meet them before we sign?
- Which MIL-STD-2525 or APP-6 versions have you designed with?
- Can you build the front-end, or do we need a separate developer?
Where Cosmos Studio fits
We work with defense and dual-use companies that need to explain a complex product to investors, buyers and operators. Typical work: a defense startup brand with a website and pitch visuals, then defense software UX for C2, ISR, GEOINT, counter-UAS or drone products. We sign an NDA from the first call and design with synthetic data.
Projects start at $5,000, and hourly rates start at $50. A typical defense engagement takes 4–8 weeks from brief to delivery, and larger platforms ship in stages. See the defense and military tech page for the full scope, or send us your current site or deck through the contact page for an estimate.

FAQ
What does a defense tech design agency do?
It designs the brand, website and product interfaces for companies that sell to defense buyers. The product side covers operator screens for C2, ISR, drones or counter-UAS, where people make decisions under time pressure. The brand side helps investors and procurement teams understand a complex product quickly.
How much does a defense tech design agency cost?
Few agencies publish prices. On this list, Eleken charges $4,599–6,599 a month for a designer, and Cosmos Studio starts projects at $5,000 with rates from $50 an hour. Program-level work through federal contract vehicles is priced per contract.
Do I need a design agency with a security clearance?
Not for most startup work. Layouts, flows and design systems can be designed with sample data, while classified data stays with your cleared team. If your program requires cleared designers, look at firms that work on federal contracts and ask them directly.
Can a general SaaS design agency design a defense product?
Yes, if you give it domain experts and time. Expect to pay for the learning curve: maps, symbology, alerts and offline states are new to most SaaS designers. An agency with defense cases starts from what it already knows.
Which agency on this list is best for a pre-seed defense startup?
Usually one that can do the brand, website and pitch visuals together, because those are what you need to raise. Cosmos Studio and Halo Lab do that work; Project A's design team does it for its portfolio companies. See our pricing page for a quick budget range.
