About Cosmos Studio

Interfaces for operators who cannot afford to misread the screen

Defense and dual-use software is used under stress, often at night, on unreliable networks and with too many alerts. A confusing map, a hidden status or the wrong symbol costs time when time matters most. Cosmos Studio designs operator interfaces for command and control (C2), ISR and GEOINT analysis, counter-UAS and drone fleet management.

We have real experience with MIL-STD-2525 and NATO APP-6 military symbology and designed the browser-based geospatial analysis platform for Bravo1Alpha, a European GEOINT and IMINT provider. For websites of defense companies, see our defense tech website design page; this page is about the software itself.

What we design

Defense software we design

We design and build the interfaces operators, analysts and commanders use every day.

Command and control (C2)

One clear operational picture

Map-first layouts, unit and track lists, tasking and status views that keep the operational picture readable when the number of objects grows.

Our approach

Operator-first design principles

We design with reference to established human factors guidance such as MIL-STD-1472 and situation awareness research.

01

Situation awareness first

Interfaces show what is happening, what it means and what is likely to happen next, in that order.

02

Correct symbology

MIL-STD-2525 and NATO APP-6 frames, colors and modifiers used correctly on maps and lists.

03

Alerts that stay meaningful

Priority levels, grouping and acknowledgement flows that prevent alert fatigue.

04

Night and low-light modes

Dark, low-luminance themes and palettes designed for night operations.

05

Built for weak networks

Offline and degraded states, data freshness indicators and clear sync status for disconnected or limited-bandwidth use.

06

Role-based views

Different roles see what they need, with permissions and audit trails that hold up to review.

Is Cosmos Studio the right partner for your defense software?

Strong fit

We’re a strong fit if:

  • 01You build C2, ISR, GEOINT, counter-UAS or drone software, and operators struggle with the current interface.
  • 02You need a design system and front-end that scale across modules and roles.
  • 03You want a senior team that works under NDA and uses only material you are allowed to share.

Sounds like your team?

Not a fit

We’re probably not the right choice if:

You need a team with security clearances to handle classified data, certified MIL-STD compliance, or a budget below $5,000.

We can still helpA UX audit of your current product is a good first step: in 1–2 weeks we show where operators lose time.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

1

Do you have experience with MIL-STD-2525 and APP-6 symbology?

Yes. We have designed interfaces with MIL-STD-2525 and NATO APP-6 symbology, including annotations in the Bravo1Alpha geospatial analysis platform.

2

Can you design for low-bandwidth or offline field use?

Yes. We design offline and degraded states, data freshness indicators and sync status, so operators always know how current the information is.

3

Can you work without access to classified data?

Yes. We work under NDA, only with material you are allowed to share, and use sample or synthetic data for designs and prototypes. We do not hold security clearances.

4

Do you also build the front-end?

Yes. We build front-ends in React, Next.js and TypeScript, including map and WebGL views. Backend and infrastructure work is done by your team or our senior partners.

5

Can you improve an existing product, not just design a new one?

Yes. Many projects start with a UX audit of a fielded or pilot product, followed by a redesign of the most critical workflows and a design system.

6

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

Projects start at $5,000, and hourly rates start at $50. A UX audit takes 1–2 weeks; a redesign of core workflows usually takes 4–8 weeks, and larger platforms are delivered in stages.
